A Summer Chat with my Shades On
I’m finally getting into the summer groove. We spent a morning this week at a city pool and it was just what I needed. Sunshine, cool water, my kids laughing and splashing while I connected with the other moms. What a gift it is to be able to hang out with friends.
I’ve been gathering up a few things to share for this post. I hope you take the time to tell me about your recent happenings and any new things you’ve discovered to help or enrich your life.
Have you heard Ellie Holcolm’s song “Mine” it’s about her kiddos? It’s a tear jerker for me.
We made our first Dutch baby! You gotta try it.
I’ve been totally into these Japanese cooking videos lately. I love watching her toddler in the background.
My friend Canaan told me about Summer Bridge workbooks. It’s grade-level worksheets to help your child during the summer to not lose their school skills. It only takes 15 minutes a day!
Since Brent’s working from home he likes to take a fake commute when he gets off work. His commute is a walk down the street and back. The neighbors wave and ask him about his workday, it’s great.
We signed up for Kids Bowl Free. Dean and I already bowled a game and had a fun time. Note: Adult pass and all shoe rental not included.
Our Regal theater is showing $1 kid movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the day. Check site for movie listing and times.
My boys have been working hard to complete the summer reading program at our local library. That’s something we enjoy and of course, the prizes help with motivation! Most libraries have a program like this, check your local library for information.
I’ve been listening to the audiobook Eat a Peach, a memoir by chef David Chang. I connect so much with his love of the Asian lifestyle, of eating, and his passion to bring that to America. Eating at Momofuku Noddle Bar is definitely on my bucket list. Note: Just a warning that he cusses quite a bit in this book.
These are my favorite hair ties. It’s hard for me to find a ponytail holder that actually holds my hair up.
I made this herbed potato salad as a side for BBQ ribs and it was a hit. Brent is not a big fan of creamy potato salad so this vinaigrette option gave a nice alternative.
My sister-in-law, Meagan, recommended the book Dominic as a family read-aloud. We have a chapter left and have taken quite a liking to Dominic the adventurous, spear-carrying dog who plays the piccolo. We’re also big fans of William Steig’s picture book, Doctor De Soto.
All the trials, difficulties, and hardships we face are not for nothing. This song, Worth it All, encourages me.
Check out this Anne of Green Gables note pad, sure to make you smile while writing your to do list.
I’d love to hear what’s new with you.

If you purchase from a link on this blog a small percentage of the sale may come back to me. You are never charged more for the product. It’s a way to keep this site going and I’m very selective about the things I list. It’s mostly things we already own and love or things I think you would enjoy. Thank you for reading!
