Which Celebrities Have You Met?

Hollywood sign in California with blue sky and blooming red berry bush underneath.

No matter where I live in the world, I will always be an Oklahoma girl that still wants to squeal when I see a famous person. I don’t think that will ever change. Since we lived in California and now Nashville I get asked if I’ve met anyone famous. Here is my list.

California Dreaming

Living in California for over 7 years I had my share of star spottings. We lived outside of San Francisco in a town called Mill Valley for a couple of years where I worked at Peet’s Coffee as a barista. Marian County is known to be one of the most affluent counties in the United States so of course, a few celebrities dwell there.

Peet’s was an awesome place to see famous people because they would come up to the counter and order something which meant I actually got to talk to them! One day I met Bonnie Raitt. She paid for her order with cash and then counted out pennies to get the exact change. I appreciated that about her, every penny counted. Minnie Driver, from the movie Return to Me, was a customer as well as Tyler Florence from the Food Network.

After our time in Northern California, we spend several years in Los Angeles. We lived in Culver City which is where Sony Studios is located. Funny enough I ended up seeing more famous people in Mill Valley than I did in L.A. Wolfgang Puck was a celebrity chef I met in L.A. while I was working at Guess?, Inc. He was opening Wolfgang Puck Catering at our company cafe.

Nashville Y’all and More

Now we live in Nashville which comes with its own set of famous people. In Nashville, I’ve met Ann Patchett, who wrote The Dutch House, at her bookstore, Parnassus. At the time I had no idea who she was but she was helpful and showed us how her in-store dog knew sign language. He really did! At a company event, I met Dave Ramsey unexpectantly.

Once I was with Dean at Frothy Monkey in Nashville and Mat Kearney was in front of us in line. He was on a day date with his wife. Somehow (enter wink) we ended up sitting at a table right next to them. They were super chill and sat at a table facing out into the restaurant which I thought was interesting. I would think most celebrities would like to hide in a corner and not be noticed. Something that struck my eye is that Mat’s shoes were old and scuffed. I appreciated that just because he sells a lot of records doesn’t mean he can’t wear old shoes.

Oh, I almost forgot. Once when I was in Waco, Texas visiting the Silos I met Nan Stephens, Joanna Gaines’s mom. Also, at a woman’s conference in Oklahoma, I met Boo Mama and Jeannie Allen.

I would love to hear your stories. What famous person have you met? What did you admire about them?
