What are Your Favorite Fall Bakes?
Our pumpkin spice candle is burning and the faint smell of cinnamon inspires me to bake. This year I created a list of the things we like to bake or would like to start baking in the autumn season. I’d love to hear your favorites too.
Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread – This is always a winner. It’s an easy-to-follow recipe and uses canned pumpkin.
Double Crust Apple Pie – Go easy on yourself and use store-bought pie dough. The recipe calls for Fuji or Granny Smith apples but really I use whatever we have on hand. Simple recipe, easy for kids to join in on the baking.
Ginger Snaps – A little crispy on the outside but super soft on the inside. Kids love helping to roll the cookie dough balls in the sugar before baking.
Oatmeal Crispies (Cookies) – I’m excited to try these. Nice to have a cookie recipe that doesn’t require any special ingredients, stuff you most likely already have at home. I’m planning to substitute butter for the shortening and leave out the pecans if we’re out. Pioneer Woman says these are her husband’s favorite.
Quick Peanut Butter Blossoms – My Oma Wilma made these with us one year as children and since then they have always reminded me of her. If you’re interested in making the peanut butter dough from scratch here’s a recipe. Don’t forget to pick up some Hershey’s Kisses next time you’re at the store.
Apple Crisp – I’ve been making this since about 2003 and it’s still a winner. So simple yet so comforting. Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Snickerdoodles – Since my boys are crazy about chocolate I usually don’t take the time to make cookies sans chocolate but I think snickerdoodles would make a wonderful fall treat. I’ll leave out the shortening and use all butter instead.
Please share some of your go-to fall favorites.
