Today is the Day to Start Creating

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about creativity and how much I enjoy it. How much I need it. How alive it makes me feel. That is one of the reasons I started blogging, a creative outlet.

When both of my boys turned one-and-a-half I started working part time. With my first child, it was for a property management company in Los Angeles. I really enjoyed the job. I had an office separate from our apartment only one flight of stairs away.

A toddler at an adult desk with pen and paper in hand.

During that time, I learned the discipline of working during nap time. It was also fulfilling to take Grant around with me to show apartments, buy balloons for open houses, or have him help me with paperwork.

When Dean was 19 months–I started blogging again. It was not full time and not consistent but I thought about it a lot. I created a list of all my post ideas. I would take pictures dreaming of all the blog posts I would use them in. Time was limited and it was hard to feel like I could do it. Also, writing is something that has never been easy for me but the dream of blogging was so big and I couldn’t shake it.

About a year ago, I realized that I need some type of accountability to be consistent. I would always find excuses to not create or publish my posts. I got a few friends together that were also in creative fields and that was the key for me. I absolutely loved taking about creating with podcasters, bloggers, photographers, writers, stylists, craft makers, bakers, painters, women that sew, graphic designers, etc. Sometimes you just need someone in your corner who understands.

I have no idea where this blog will take me, but I have a deep desire to get my thoughts on paper, er, screen. For a couple years, I didn’t have much of a desire for anything so when God began growing this desire the next step had to be action.

Waiting for the right time to start was the hardest part. When my babies were little they needed me and I wasn’t able to give time to my blog. When a health crisis in my family arrived, that took a toll and limited my availability. Life happens while you are following your dreams. Sometime you may have to delay starting or pause for a bit. If now doesn’t seem the right time to start but you have a dream growing in your heart let it grow. Don’t give up on it. It may be years before you can begin. If you can start today, why not go for it. Today is a great day to start creating.

Here we go.

Inspiration for Taking the Leap

I want a confetti drawer, she has one.

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth

Blogging impacts your life.

The dark ages are over.

A fellow twin shows me that dreams can come true.

This community has always encouraged us to create, to love, to do something to make the world a better place.

Little girl, you can do anything.

Her work ethic inspires me and shows me how much can be accomplished by working during lunch.

Because I sang this song in high school choir and it has stayed with me all these years.

“If you follow your dreams, though the road seems lonely
Follow your dreams, no matter how far.
Give it your best, you’ll find success
if you just keep your eye on that star.”

Last but not least, here is one more.

When God urges you with something even if it seems outlandish, uncommon, or you have doubts that you can even do it listen to his voice. He knows best.

What dreams do you have inside of you? I would love to hear.
