The Soda Parlor: Super Chill Arcade in East Nashville

UPDATE: The Soda Parlor was hit by the March 2020 tornado that brought devastation to Nashville. Sadly, it is no longer in operation. If you are interested, they have set up a fundraiser here.

Raised counter in shop with black subway tile. The words "The Soda Parlor Nashville, TN" is in cool white font on top of the tile.

Fun arcade games, a selection of specialty bottled sodas and free parking– what more could you want? We set out on an adventure into East Nashville to celebrate my husband, Brent, turning 41. He requested a place with video games but had no idea what Nashville had to offer since we are fairly new to the city. A while back one of my neighbors mentioned The Soda Parlor and I kept it in the back of my mind for such a time as this.

It was created by Olan Rogers, a comedian, and YouTuber who also created the teen animated television show, Final Space. He wanted a place for his fans to hang out and The Soda Parlor was born. We weren’t familiar with Olan or his show, yet we still had a great time hanging out and loved the chill vibe. It’s such a cool spot– from the decor to the vintage video game machines to the ice cream sundaes served with cookie butter. The place is a dream for any arcade enthusiast with a sweet tooth.

Best time to visit – We arrived around 4pm on a rainy Saturday. We were never left waiting to play a game but if we were to arrive later in the evening I’m sure it would have been crowded. The earlier the better if you want a selection of games to pick from.

What to order – They have a variety of specialty soda drinks and ice cream options. Such as waffle mondaes (instead of sundaes), floats, and moonshakes (milkshakes). One of the waffle mondaes is called Cookie Monster. It’s a warm brownie waffle topped with cookie butter, cookie dough ice cream, whipped cream, plus hot fudge, and cookie crumbles. Are you getting in your car now?

So many types of Root Beer!

Games available – Donkey Kong, Gauntlet, Golden Axe, Street Fighter II, Mario Bros., Centipede, Asteroids Deluxe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ms. Pac-Man, and Galaga. Did I mention they’re all FREE PLAY? Also, there’s a room upstairs with a T.V. and mini original Nintendo loaded with lots of classic games. Plus a few board games to play while sitting on a comfy couch.

Decor – It was modern yet nostagic, just right for an arcade. Bright colors, raw wood construction that felt welcoming, cool font and graphics, clean, and friendly staff.

Parking – If you park at Hill 5 Points the first hour and thirty minutes is free.

Cost – We all had a bottled root beer for about $3 each. Buy 3 get one free was also in effect – score!

What could be improved? It would be nice if they had some salty or savory options on the menu. Even a bag of chips would help stop that salty craving.

Would I go back? FOR SURE! It was a fun afternoon for all. I even had a good time and video games are not my thing. The boys were loving every second. We look forward to going back and sharing this Nashville gem with friends and family.
