Saying Goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II

Bartlett pear tree in bloom. White flowers with pink center in bunches on branches of tree.

I knew this day would come. It seems so surreal that the woman who has been a constant is no longer alive.

“Each day is a new beginning, I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God.”

– Queen Elizabeth II

Overall, I think I saw Queen Elizabeth more like I saw my own grandmother. A strong and capable woman that cared about her faith in God and about others, one who loved her family deeply and honored tradition. Of course, these are my own personal feelings and I know some have very strong opinions that differ from mine. At the end of her life, she was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who carried an enormous amount of weight in caring for her family, her country, and the world.

Although I know she was not perfect, as none of us are, I applaud her life and legacy. I would like to thank her for her consistency, bravery, and perseverance. During The Queen’s April 2020 broadcast she gave hope when so many were downcast. I personally was inspired by her message and the strength it took to lead in such a trying time. The incredible thing was that she did that many times over and over throughout the decades.

“While we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”

– Queen Elizabeth II, April 2020 Broadcast

Today, I’ll have a cup of tea in honor of Her Majesty. Will you join me?
