Halloween Costume Photo Display Project

Wooden mantle with fall decor and a string of photos. The photos are of family halloween costumes throughout the years.

Dressing up for Halloween has always been a highlight for me. I remember when my twin sister and I were around 5 years old we dressed up as Smurfs. One year, I was a can of Coke which I thought was absolutely awesome. My sister was a blue Crayon.

A string of family costume photos. Costumes are farmers, scarecrow, ear of corn, s'mores, Scooby Crew in Mystery Machine, etc.

Brent and I dressed up to attend parties and events before we had kids. After we started having kids I thought it would be a lot of fun to have family costumes. Through the years we have dressed up as many things from The Jetsons, to wearing gigantic animals masks on our heads, and even Lego Ninjago characters and sushi rolls. We love it!

A super special way to remember all those costumes it to display the photos every October. I printed out a photo of us in costume for every year we have been married. Some years we are more excited about the costumes than others but regardless we try to dress up. It’s a tradition I love and I’m not sure how much longer the boys will be willing to do it.

Easy Photo Display Project

For printing these photos I used my home printer. Recently for another project, I ordered prints from Chatbooks. They also have super cute photo books that pull your photos directly from Instagram or Facebook. If you have never used Chatbooks you can use my referral code here and save $10 on a photo book. I will also earn a $10 credit. Note: If you are already a Chatbooks customer the code will not work as it is only for new customers. I’ve also heard good things about Artifact Uprising, an online photo printing company.

We dressed up as The Jetsons, a lion, tiger and bear and a family of farmers with an ear of corn. My mom was the scarecrow.

You could frame the photos, tape them to a wall using washi or painters tape, or hang them from a string of twine using mini clothes pins as I did. (Tip: Dollar Tree (in-store) has cute mini clothes pins in their craft section.) I only display the photos during the month of October. Grechen Rubin author of The Happiness Project talks about how we get tired of seeing the same old photos around the house but by changing the photos out we will notice them more which brings more happiness.

After I take down the display I store the Halloween photos in a ziplock bag with the twine and mini clothes pins in my fall holiday decorations tub. I will simply print a new photo out for this year and add it to the group.

A string of family costume photos. Costumes are Farmers, The Flintstones and Bakers.

If you don’t have photos from all the past years start this year. No need to get tangled up in perfection. Start with were you are today. It will still give you a boost of delight. If your family doesn’t celebrate Halloween pick another holiday or tradition to display. How about yearly family holiday cards? Remember the key is to only put it out for a month or so and bring it out again every year.

I would love to see your photo displays. Use #ExploreAndThriveProject to share your work. This project makes me smile and I know it will get you smiling too.

What other photo groupings would you like to create and display?
