Asian Dramas that I Love
Several years ago I watched my first modern Asian drama, a Korean one, The Heirs. I was instantly hooked. It’s high schoolers from different social classes that form a relationship despite their economic differences. If you’re unfamiliar with Asian dramas they’re television series in an Asian language filmed in an Asia country. Mostly the ones I’ve watched are filmed either in South Korea or Japan. They’re stories focused on family values, careers, and romantic relationships with deep emotional themes. It’s an inside peek into another culture.
I love learning about the people, the food, and the culture. It’s so fascinating for me to see the settings and the wardrobes. At times the shows can be a bit cheesy, but I’ve found them to have so much emotional depth and interest. Some are romantic, others are historical, you’ll also find them clever and creative. They are mostly pretty clean and have some level of unpredictability. I find them appealing and they spark my curiosity. They get in my head and I can’t wait to watch the next one.
Be warned there are times when the show may go into slow mode for dramatic effect while a romantic love song is playing. Just go with it, it’s part of the genre but I know it is quite different at first. Also, if you do decide to start a series I would plan for time to binge-watch because once you’re hooked it’s hard to stop.
Although my list consists of only Korean and Japanese dramas I know other Asian countries have them. These are the ones I have access to and have discovered. I would love to hear any suggestions if you’ve found ones you like. The Asian Crush app (lots of free content) is a good resource to find these types of dramas although I’ve watched most of mine on Amazon Prime.
Here is a list of the dramas I have especially enjoyed. If you haven’t ever watched one I would encourage you to try it. I think you’ll be glad you did.

It’s a way to keep this site going and I’m very selective about the things I list. It’s mostly things we already own and love or things I think you would enjoy. Thank you for reading!
