A Fun Way for Kids to Learn During the Summer

Summer Brain Quest Workbooks

Not sure if your kids are like thist but mine feel very strongly about not doing “school work” in the summer. Sure they will read for pleasure and do the assigned summer reading project but otherwise, it feels like torture for them to actually engage in learning lessons. This summer we found something that they actually get excited about…

We were browsing books at Barnes and Noble a week or two after school let out. I happened to see the Summer Brain Quest Workbooks. When the boys were little we had the Brain Quest Q and A cards which they really liked. I was game to try a new summer learning workbook since we haven’t had the best success with them in the past.

The workbooks correlate to their grade level, each is aligned with common core state standards. Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Math are all included. They’re designed with the idea of keeping kids’ skills up during the summer so they don’t forget everything. The boys immediately dove into the Brain Quest workbooks.

Why My Kids Love Brain Quest Summer Workbooks

Their favorite part is that the workbooks include a pull-out summer progress map with stickers! I love the fact that it includes educational material even with some quests being outdoors. I don’t have to remind my kids to open their workbooks. They do just two pages a day which fits in nicely with our summer schedule. They even did it on the 4th of July! Brent reminded me it’s not a chore to them, they truly enjoy it.

The directions are fairly easy to understand and mostly my kids (aged 7 & 11) work independently. There has been a time or two I needed to explain a question (by googling it) or help them through a quest but I would say overall it’s on par with their grade level.

Why I Love Brain Quest Summer Workbooks

One of my favorite parts of the Brain Quest Summer Workbooks is the reading lists. We’re always looking for new books to read and how wonderful to have a list of grade-level books for summer reading.
At the back of the book, there are sheets your kids can cut out to create a Brain Quest Mini Deck that includes grade-level questions and answers. A simple thing to take on a road trip or on a quick errand. Entertainment plus learning, a win-win!
