48 Hours in Charming Chattanooga, TN

You guys, this little city is a gem. We picked Chattanooga for our annual Memorial Day weekend trip this year. Once again I’m reminded of how nice it is to get away as soon as school is out. We are all exhausted in different ways and the change of scenery is such a welcome respite.

Some Sights Around Town

Entrance to Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, TN.

I especially enjoyed walking around Coolidge Park. Huge fields full of people play ultimate frisbee and Spike ball. Even a sweet carousel and splash fountain for the little ones. After the walk, we stopped for ice cream at Clumpies Ice Cream Co., just what we needed on a warm evening.

We were blown away with the food at FIAMMA Pizza Company, Neapolitan & Sicilian pies fired in a traditional wood fire oven.

Where We Stayed, NorthShore Neighborhood

We stayed at an Airbnb in NorthShore. The area was right across the Walnut Street bridge and had so much to offer with shops, dining, and quirky colorful homes with gorgeous views. The morning walks around the neighborhood were my favorite. I loved getting to view all the houses, flowers, and discovering secret stairways along garden paths.

Tennessee Aquarium

Good thing we were in a shark cage!

We all enjoyed walking through the aquarium. It took us about an hour for the River Journey (freshwater exhibits) and an hour for the Ocean Journey (saltwater exhibits). To my surprise it was not all water creatures, a butterfly garden and active lemurs were on display. I was able to touch a sting ray and a lake sturgeon. The river giants and the Pacific Sea nettles were my favorites although the kids loved the penguins. We even pretended it was shark week!

Trashy the Trout was created using plastics from our everyday lives. This original artwork found at the Tennessee Aquarium brings awareness of plastic consumption and highlights the dangers it brings to the environment.

Ruby Falls

We had to stop and explore Ruby Falls. The boys loved it and thankfully I didn’t freak out too much being in a tight enclosed underground cave for about an hour!

A friend told me great things about the Creative Discovery Museum for kids.

We also stumbled upon a Peet’s Coffee. It was unfortunately closed at the time but we were thrilled to see it.

On Sunday we joined Brainerd Downtown for church.

Although we heard Aretha Frankinstins was good, we were never able to snag a table.
